Starting in the early 20th century, this movement started to grow day by day. This day, which was sometimes blocked, sometimes unrecognized, sometimes ignored, became official worldwide with the recognition of the United Nations. But doesn't the need for such a day indicate that the attacks and injustices suffered by women still continue?
The past century has been a period in which rights were sought on many issues and shaped today's global world. Undoubtedly, in this century, women's rights in the world have developed in many areas and women have gained their rights legally. So much so that our country has been a pioneer of this. In the new state system, Turkey was among the first countries to grant women the right to vote and be elected. Again, many privileges such as civil rights have been granted to women in Turkey.
So why the unheard cry of women in our country?
Women, our women have many fears depending on the conditions in this country. Some will complain about not being able to walk home comfortably in the evening, some because they cannot dress freely, some because they are subjected to violence from their husbands, some because they are harassed...
The fact that our society has not reached sufficient socio-cultural awareness of women shows that all these problems are actually based on certain reasons. This is why days like March 8th
That is why we care. As Maya Akademi, we support raising awareness that can create sufficient awareness these days and make our people aware of this issue, regardless of men and women. We can overcome the increasing number of femicides in Turkey not by imposing deterrent punishments and putting police on the trail of women who are subjected to violence, but by raising awareness through schools, universities, panels, theaters, cinemas, TV series and movies, and social media, which is the most powerful communication channel of our age. Unfortunately, since this enlightenment will take time, we must always raise our voices louder and louder without getting tired.
As Maya Akademi family, we congratulate you on “March 8th International Women's Day”.
