Challenges of Being a Masseur/Masseuse

The word massage in our language is derived from the Arabic word “mass” meaning touch and the Greek word “massein” meaning kneading. Massage is the mechanical and neural (reflex) stimulation of the skin, subcutaneous tissue, muscles, internal organs, metabolism, circulatory and lymphatic systems for therapeutic purposes; it is a method of increasing regional blood circulation with various strokes and rubs, expanding the vessels and providing more blood to the tissue. It is done for rest or treatment purposes. Masseur is a word that comes into our language from French “Masseur”. Ladies are called masseuses or masseurs and gentlemen are called masseurs. In general, it can also be called a massage therapist.

It is essential to know the profession before deciding to become a therapist. If you don't like the sound of relaxing people with your hands, don't start. Since massage is a manipulation of the surface of the organism for the purpose of treatment or relaxation, it should be remembered that incorrect applications will harm the patient. It is essential to undergo specially prepared trainings. It is possible to apply the correct techniques learned to the right points with training. That is why those who decide to become a massage therapist should be aware of their skills and knowledge before entering the profession.

A good massage therapist should measure whether they have the capacity to provide the relaxation or treatment the patient needs. If you cannot provide this comfort from within, you cannot be a professional therapist. In order to relax the other person, it is essential to energize yourself. If you think you cannot do this, this job is not for you.

Massage is a profession that requires physical work. The massage therapist must have strong hands and strong muscles. According to some, hands are the extension of the brain. Working with the same skill in both hands is necessary to be more efficient while providing service and increases the quality of the work done.
